The IAM4RE.eu project – Intellectual Asset Management for Research and Entrepreneurship – officially launched on 1st April 2025, bringing together a team of 7 European organisations to rethink the way Public Research Organisations (PROs) and Academic Institutions (AcIs) manage their intangible assets. Funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme, the project aims to shape the future of knowledge valorisation and academic entrepreneurship across Europe.
The Time for Intellectual Asset Valorisation
In today’s dynamic innovation environment, IAM4RE.eu aims to bridge a critical gap in the early-stage management of intellectual assets (IAs), a challenge that has long held back the full potential of research-based spin-offs. The project aims to go beyond traditional approaches to intellectual property (IP) by promoting a wider and more strategic approach to Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), broadening the scope to include essential aspects such as know-how, data, software, standards, and more.
IAM4RE will provide research institutions with the tools, skills, and strategies needed to maximise the value of their intangible assets. Aligned with the EU Codes of Practice on Knowledge Valorisation and Standardisation, the project’s expected results are designed to be impactful, policy-relevant, and scalable.
Objectives
IAM4RE is guided by five key objectives:
- Engage stakeholders through modular educational resources that simplify the understanding and use of knowledge valorisation (KV) and standardisation.
- Build institutional capacity in PROs and AcIs by delivering targeted training tailored to their real-world needs.
- Train intermediaries, including Technology Transfer Offices, Research Support Offices, and incubators, teaching them how to be effective trainers of IAM and entrepreneurship.
- Promote the adoption of EU Codes of Practice, guaranteeing their incorporation into institutional strategies and operations.
- Ensure long-term sustainability and scalability of the project’s results through comprehensive dissemination, community-building, and exploitation strategies.
Tools, Training, and Tangible Impact
At the heart of IAM4RE is a strong focus on capacity-building. The project will design and deliver a suite of practical tools and resources, including:
- A training suite adapted for a variety of audiences,
- A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC),
- A comprehensive Train-the-Trainer programme,
- New service formats to support institutional implementation,
- And policy guidelines for decision-makers within PROs.
All outputs will undergo real-world testing in pilot institutions to ensure they are not only theoretically sound but also practically effective.
A Collaborative Partnership
IAM4RE is a HORIZON Coordination and Support Action, funded under the HORIZON-CL4-2024-HUMAN-02-35 topic by the European Commission, and managed by HADEA (European Health and Digital Executive Agency). Over 24 months, a consortium of leading organisations from across Europe will guide the project forward:
- META Group (Coordinator)
- EURICE
- RISE
- TRUST-IT
- ASTP
- UBFON
- Vilniaus Universitetas (VU)
- META BE (Affiliated Entity of META Group)
- COMMpla Srl (Affiliated Entity of TRUST-IT)
Together, these partners bring a wealth of expertise in innovation management, technology transfer, policy development, communication, and stakeholder engagement, creating a solid foundation for IAM4RE’s success.
Looking Ahead
IAM4RE.eu marks the beginning of a much-needed shift in how Europe approaches research valorisation, standardisation, and academic entrepreneurship. By providing research institutions with the knowledge, tools, and networks required to transform ideas into impact, the project will help convert scientific potential into societal and economic value responsibly, sustainably, and strategically.
