IAM4RE starts from a simple observation: research produces far more value than a patent alone can ever capture. Data, software, methodologies, know-how and reputation are all intellectual assets, and turning them into real-world impact takes more than legal protection. It takes people who can recognise what they are working with, manage it well, and valorise it in ways that reach markets, policy and society. That is the gap IAM4RE was set up to close. Rather than treating intellectual asset management as a specialist afterthought, the project builds capacity where it matters most: inside public research organisations, academic institutions, and the technology transfer and knowledge transfer offices that support them. The work is aligned throughout with EU priorities on knowledge valorisation and standardisation, so what learners take away holds up beyond the walls of their own institution. At the centre of this effort sits a single learning ecosystem, hosted on one platform and shaped around how expertise is actually built: gradually, through training that deepens as the learner does. Rather than a single course, IAM4RE offers a full pathway, supported by practical tools, case studies, assessment resources and a growing Community of Practice, so nobody is left working from theory alone.
The pathway runs in three steps. The MOOC is the entry point, a free, self-paced introduction for anyone approaching the subject for the first time. The Training Suite takes learners further, with expert-led modules organised across competency tiers for those who need applicable, specialist skills. The Train-the-Trainer Programme closes the loop, equipping trainers and institutional multipliers to deliver this knowledge to others in their own context. These work at institutional rather than individual level, helping organisations put durable processes in place for managing intellectual assets and engaging with standardisation. They are currently in their pilot phase with a selected group of institutions and will be publicly available soon.
