The IAM4RE MOOC is a self-paced introductory learning programme for anyone who wants to understand how research results can become useful, visible and impactful. It is designed for learners with little or no prior knowledge and provides a practical starting point before moving into the more advanced IAM4RE Training Suite.
Rather than going deeply into expert methods, the MOOC builds a shared foundation: what intellectual assets are, why knowledge valorisation matters, how standardisation supports uptake, and how researchers can start thinking more strategically about impact.

Why take the MOOC?
Many researchers produce valuable results but are unsure how to move beyond publication. The IAM4RE MOOC helps learners understand how research outputs can become intellectual assets, how different valorisation pathways can be considered, and why standardisation can support trust, interoperability and wider uptake.
It does not replace expert support or advanced training. Instead, it prepares learners to ask better questions, recognise opportunities earlier, and engage more effectively with TTOs, KTOs, innovation support services and the IAM4RE Training Suite.
How the course is structured
The MOOC consists of 8 short modules. Each module follows a simple learning structure:
- Two short videos
- A practical application task
- A short quiz to check understanding
The modules guide learners from basic awareness to more strategic reflection:
Basic level
Foundations of research capacity building, knowledge valorisation and intellectual assets
Intermediate level
Commercialisation, standardisation and implementation in research projects
Strategic level
Research management capacity and planning for research impact
The course is flexible and self-paced. Learners can complete the full MOOC as a structured pathway or use selected modules as a targeted introduction to specific topics.
