Acquire the practical tools to turn high-level research into successful innovation.

Developed by the IAM4RE project, this Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is a 10-week multimedia programme links academic theory and practical, real-world impact. We’ve taken complex European policy frameworks and translated them into a practical, self-paced digital experience that focuses on academic entrepreneurship, knowledge valorisation, and standardisation.
Who is this for?
The course is primarily built for those ready to take their research to the next level:
- Master’s and PhD students
- Early-career researchers
- Members of academic spin-offs
It’s also an ideal for Technology Transfer Office (TTO) staff, innovation managers, and research support professionals who want to sharpen their strategic toolkit.
Why join the programme?
Currently, there is a persistent gap in support for managing intellectual assets within European research institutions. This MOOC addresses that head-on by fostering a genuine entrepreneurial mindset. We move beyond narrow patent protection to show you how to fully leverage your work. By integrating standardisation and strategic management into your research, you will gain the confidence to navigate the complexities of the market, ensuring your ideas deliver genuine societal and economic value.
How the course is structured
The programme uses a microlearning approach, delivering content through:
- Short video lectures that get straight to the point.
- Concise visual summaries for quick reference.
- Self-assessment quizzes to check your progress.
The curriculum consists of 8 modules delivered over the 10-week period, organised into three progressive levels: Basic: Foundations of strategic research planning, focusing on intellectual assets and societal needs; Intermediate: Deep dives into standardisation, asset management, and open innovation; Advanced: Practical applications in research valorisation and building strategic impact plans.
