Explore the main knowledge valorisation pathways, from licensing and collaboration to spin-offs and standardisation.
How does a research result move from potential to real-world impact? This module explores how research results can be translated into tangible value through different knowledge valorisation pathways, from licensing and research–industry collaboration to spin-offs, standardisation and other routes supporting the uptake and exploitation of research outcomes.
You will discover why choosing a pathway is rarely a straightforward decision. The most appropriate route depends on a combination of factors, including the maturity of the research, stakeholder needs, market conditions, institutional objectives, available resources and the potential for societal or economic impact.
Rather than presenting valorisation as a one-size-fits-all process, the module explores how different pathways can be selected, combined or adapted as research evolves and new opportunities emerge throughout the research lifecycle.
By the end of the module, you will have a clearer understanding of the strategic considerations behind pathway selection and a stronger basis for making informed, context-sensitive decisions about how research results can move towards uptake and impact.
