Market & Industry Analysis

Training Suite - Module 4 Deep Dive

Date: 28 May 2026
Level: Basic Tier
Format: Interactive Webinar (deep dive + discussion)

About this Deep Dive

This interactive Deep Dive builds on Module 4 of the IAM4RE Training Suite and tackles a persistent issue in research and innovation:

Why do strong research results so often fail to reach the market?

Despite increasing focus on knowledge valorisation, many projects still struggle to demonstrate real demand, identify clear users, or position their results within existing industry structures. Market analysis is often treated as a formality — rather than a driver of strategic decisions.
This session challenges that approach. It looks at how market and industry understanding can move from a “tick-box exercise” to a core element of how projects define direction, partners, and impact pathways.
This session is organised as an interactive exchange, bringing together different perspectives to reflect where things work — and where they break down in practice.

This deep dive session will cover:

  • A business development perspective on turning research results into market opportunities
  • An investor perspective on market validation, traction, and scalability
  • Participants’ own experiences with positioning results within industry contexts

What will be discussed

The discussion will focus on:
•    Why “market relevance” is often assumed rather than demonstrated
•    At what stage should market validation realistically happen
•    How to avoid developing solutions without a clear user or demand
•    What industry actors actually look for when engaging with research outputs
•    Where typical gaps appear in market and industry analysis within R&I projects
•    How market evidence affects funding decisions and investor confidence

Who should attend?

  • Researchers and innovators
  • Technology transfer and innovation professionals
  • Business development and exploitation managers
  • Start-ups and spin-offs from research projects
  • EU project coordinators and partners
